Here are my thoughts for what's going to happen with ANUCON2011 this year, feel free to comment and make suggestions. I want this to top last year and be even more fun for everyone.
Dates: September 10-11 (subject to final booking)
Cost: $40. There will be a $5 discount for payments received more than two weeks in advance, and a further $5 discount for people who register more than a month in advance (once I confirm the date, that is).
Facts: Warhammer 40k, 1500pts, 6 games (one of which will be a paired game as usual).
Scoring:
Battle out of 50 (10 per battle, the paired game won't count)
Sports out of 40
Painting out of 10
Battle scores will be again a mix of primary (win/draw/loss) and secondary objectives, but I'm planning on having the same set of secondary objectives across all the missions to minimise confusion. W/D/L will be 6/4/0 and +1 for each of 4 secondary objectives).
Army comp will consist of some penalties to your battle score. Although I haven't finalised this yet, I will make two notes:
- it will punish "spammy" armies a little bit (a LITTLE bit), because I personally have never liked spammy lists very much and would rather see armies with some variety.
- it will punish named special characters in inappropriate armies a lot (a LOT) - so named characters had better be in appropriately themed, modelled, and painted armies.
There will be a TO discretion mark, which will probably make up the majority of the scoring - however if anything is really bad, I will more than likely say "please don't take that list, this is intended to be a friendly tournament", than just dock you points.
There will be NO peer comp this year.
Painting will be 0/5/10 - you will get full score for a fully painted tabletop quality (or higher) army, half points if you have a mostly painted-to-tabletop-quality army or a fully painted-to-a-basic-standard army. "Tabletop" is defined as washes, basic highlighting, and meeting the "three feet rule".
Prizes will be evened out, due to the general increase in GW prices. So, I'm looking at prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, best sportsman (sports score), best general (battle points), TO's choice (replacing player's choice and best painting), and Max Wallace. Subject to budget, I'm hoping that each prize will be worth around the $70 mark, with a bit more for 1st and a bit less for Max Wallace (so overall, the prize pool should be about the same as previous years).
I'll release more concrete details as I finalise them and a player's pack should be up in a month or so (three months before the actual tournament).
Cheers, and hope to see you all at ANUCON2011 this year!
Luke
